The operator of the Veselé WWTP approached us to look at the elaborated PD of the WWTP expansion from 1200 PE to 2400 PE, stating that they need to increase the capacity up to 5000 PE. After hydrotechnical calculations using the kinetics of the nitrogen removal balance, we determined the optimal technological set of the WWTP to achieve complete nitrification and 85% removal of total nitrogen.
In the calculations, we found that it is not necessary to expand the construction WWTP compared to the project for 2400 PE conventional technology. In addition, we canceled the proposed sludge management and proposed a more economical solution. Instead of the proposed settling tanks, we placed sludge tanks and included a line for dewatering excess sludge in the technological line.
Optimally in this case is the use of a three-line arrangement, where the discontinuous technology is changed to a continuous technology. AGS technology is also flexible, it can be designed and calculated for different levels of cleaning efficiency. The calculated cost of the WWTP extension to 5000 PE with AGS technology is lower than the designed extension to 2400 PE with the classic flake biomass technology with settling tanks and a separate sludge tank.
